I feel the wet grass underneath my feet, struggling to move my body to its final resting place. Everything is so quiet. The robins silently mourn the death surrounding them, and I cry out, hoping for someone to hear, hoping for someone to still be alive. Silence.
Ravens circle above, eager to feast upon the rotting flesh that surrounds me. The smell of death clings to me like a thick fog. I watch as they swoop down, tearing apart a corpse just a few feet from me, and I can't hold it in any longer. Loss.
My body shivers involuntarily from the death ravaging inside and outside my body. Only yesterday everything was bright and peaceful, how could it have changed so quickly? The man they called the Smiler killed everyone, and I'll never know why. Dread.
I slowly get up and continue walking, clutching tightly to the rose in my hand my fiancé gave to me only yesterday. He had kissed me, saying everything would be alright. He said that we'd be together forever. Joy.
Maybe he was right. Maybe we will finally be together in the afterlife, dancing in the clouds for all eternity. Maybe we will just die, erased from existence. Maybe we'll go to hell, tortured for all eternity. Would it be any worse than things are now? Doubt.
As I approach the graveyard, I see a village in the distance, gone quiet, just like the lighthouse I left behind. Death has taken its hold there as well, and continues to spread. In mere weeks they claim that all humanity will be gone. Desolation.
Here I am, at the grave of my loved one. My body hangs limp over the cold stone as my rose falls to the ground. We were supposed to get married next month, but instead he was the first victim of this madness. Sorrow.
We've been through so much, why did he have to leave me? I was there when his mother passed away, and I've never left his side. I still have the ring he gave to me when he asked to be with me forever. Memories.
Now everything is gone. I feel my body fading into ash as I collapse on the grave where my loved one rests. Soon I will join him, forever gone from this tortured world. Rest.
My mind fades as well, and I look up and see the words on the gravestone, dedicated to the one I loved, destroyed by the madness wrought upon us. It says:
"To the man who was loved by many, yet now feared by all. To the one who brought terror from the depths of his own loss. To the Smiler, may you rest in peace."
Tragedy Within.

Dragon's Reign - Chapter 1: Dragon's Dawn
Darkness. Then, in just a blink of an eye, I turned from mighty dragon back to my normal human self. Rudely, my alarm clock had disturbed my adventure again. Like so many times before, I awakened strangely exhausted and soaked with sweat. Again, I was back in my boring, ordinary life. I sighed deeply as the last remains of sleep vanished from my body. No flying anymore today. Just the daily routine of a seventeen-year-old soph in high school. Daily routine. This phrase now floated in my mind like a dark cloud, blocking the light and sent a small shiver of sadness through my body. The fact that lately these strange dreams piled up didn't make this any better. To be honest, my life wasn't that boring or joyless, but somehow they gave me this feeling of…richness and made me happier than ever when I was awake. My thoughts were interrupted as I quickly glanced at my damned watch: it was already half past six, time for school! The sun shone through the windows and the sky was a bright

Through the Rift-Prologue
I had woken to the sound of a blast that shook my surroundings. The smell of smoke and fire thick in the air, as screams and roars are heard all around the castle. In a rush I hopped out of bed and scurried out of my chamber, claws clacking on the stone floor, I had to find my father.
I saw Veilyn running towards me, “Prince Kaius!” he roared “I was ordered by your father, we need to get you somewhere safe.” He ran past me and I followed down the corridor.
“Where is my father, I need to see him!” I cried out while I trailed behind him.
He turned back, “There is no time, we need to go. We are under

Dragon Wizard Ch 5
Chapter 5 Bedtime Stories, Part 1
Norbert's misery was relieved by a ringing noise in the Hall. When the students heard it, all conversation stopped and every head turned to the front where the Headmistress was tapping on her glass. Hagrid retrieved his photo album and put it in his jacket. Most of the girls and even a few of the boys complained. They didn't get to see all the pictures in the album.
However, no one was more happier of this fact than Norbert. He thought; "Oh, thank you, Headmistress. You've spared me from further humiliation, but couldn't you have done that sooner?"
Rose looked across the table at Norbert and almost

This is something for #Mythologue's contest, "Never Judge a Book by its Cover," which told us to do a story up to 500 words about a prompt.
So, credit goes to =silentfuneral for the inspiration, right here - [link]
So, I completely re-wrote the thing, with just the same basic plot. I'm MUCH happier with this one, but critique is still greatly appreciated.

I liked the one word emotion descriptions at the end of each paragraph very much. And the story behind the story is great!
But you did say you wanted some critique, so...
It says everything was great the day before, but then she goes to his grave, which already has a carved tombstone.. that made things inconsistent to me, and I was pretty distracted by the improbability of the next-day rush to the ground. =/
Unless it was intentional.. like he knew he was going to die and he set up his own.. but then the stone engravings wouldn't make sense...
That's all. I really did like it though, and congrats on the Daily Lit Deviation feature!
